Our Landscapes, Our Future |
| About the mid-term review |
In 2005, the NSW Government adopted a long-term aspirational goal and a set of medium-term state-wide targets for natural resource managment (NRM) that identify what we need to achieve - in terms of biodiversity, water, land and community - if we are to meet this long-term goal. These targets are meant to be achieved by 2015, so we are approaching the half-way mark.
Catchment Action Plans have been in place for almost five years, and are guiding investment and action in regions towards the targets. Also in 2005, the Government also adopted the Standard for Quality Natural Resource Management (Standard) to guide policy makers and practitioners in adaptively managing the state's natural resources towards the long-term goal.
After five years of NRM planning, implementation and auditing, it is now time to take stock, review our successes, capture what we have learnt, clarify where we want to be, and determine the best course of action to get there. This is the purpose of the mid-term review.
The mid-term review of NRM in NSW is a public review. The NRC wants to work with all groups interested in the future of NSW landscapes and communities – local, state and national governments, agencies, industry, communities and interest groups to collectively review issues and build solutions.
The mid-term review will be strategic, focussing on the big picture issues of clarifying state priorities and targets, integrating planning, and looking at how all of NSW can adapt to water scarcity and climate change.
