Natural Resource Management Roundtable
In 2003, the NSW Government implemented major reforms to natural resource management in NSW. Since then, significant progress has been made in promoting regional decision-making, delivering on-ground outcomes and improving accountability for natural resource management investment.
On 7 June 2013 the Natural Resources Commission (the Commission) held a Natural Resource Management Roundtable with leaders in catchment management, industry, agriculture, community groups and academia. The purpose of the Roundtable was to reflect on progress achieved by regional natural resource management since 2003 and explore lessons learned that could inform future governance and investment in natural resource management through Local Land Services.
A summary of the Roundtable discussion is available here.
The Roundtable participants commented on the achievements and lessons learned, as well as the opportunities and challenges regarding:
- governance and leadership
- stakeholder engagement
- strategic planning
- integrating natural resource management with farm-scale economics
- service delivery
- developing knowledge and evaluating outcomes.
The Commission is grateful to all Roundtable attendees for their valued participation and their contribution to ongoing quality practice in natural resource management in NSW.
