Summary

We audited the following water management plans to ascertain whether the provisions of the plans are being given effect to, as required under Section 44 of the Water Management Act 2000.

  • Gwydir Valley Floodplain Management Plan 2016
  • Coastal unregulated and alluvial water sharing plans (8 plans)
    • Brunswick Unregulated and Alluvial 2016
    • Clarence River Unregulated and Alluvial 2016
    • Clyde River Unregulated and Alluvial 2016
    • Deua River Unregulated and Alluvial 2016
    • Macleay Unregulated and Alluvial 2016
    • Nambucca Unregulated and Alluvial 2016
    • Snowy Genoa Unregulated and Alluvial 2016
    • Tuross River Unregulated and Alluvial 2016
  • Hunter Regulated River Water Sharing Plan 2016
  • Coastal groundwater water sharing plans (3 plans)
    • North Coast Coastal Sands Groundwater 2016
    • North Coast Fractured and Porous Rock Groundwater 2016
    • South Coast Groundwater 2016.

The audit for the Gwydir Valley, Coastal unregulated and alluvial, Hunter Regulated and Coastal groundwater plans concluded that on balance the provisions of the plans have not been given full effect to in accordance with the Act. The overarching consequence is that the objectives of the plans are unlikely to be achieved. The Minister for Water and audit agencies have responded to our audit recommendations (see below).
